7 Ways To Look Better Than You Do Right Now

The weather is warming up and for many of us, that means beating the winter blues and getting back into the swing of things. It doesn’t have to be a tedious or boring journey, though. Here are 7 simple ways to look better than you do right now:

1. Get Your Vitamins

From a young age we are taught that we need to get our daily dose of vitamins and nutrients. But, how many of us have completely abandoned that phrase as we’ve grown older and our lives have gotten busier? I know there have been times in my life when I have, until I realized: vitamins help our heart, hair, skin, bones, muscles and immune system. Vitamin D helps regulate your immune system, build strong bones, and keep you happy! Here are 5 easy ways to incorporate more in your diet.  Vitamin C also helps your immune system, skin, eyes and hair. Here’s another 5 ways to get your daily dose.

2. Incorporate More Oil Into Your Life

For the past 6 months I’ve been researching and practicing a lot of Ayurveda. With that, I’ve been running out of coconut oil like nobody’s business. From oil pulling to using a mix of oils as a facial cleanser, I can honestly say that my skin has never looked and felt better. Growing up, I always wanted to completely rid the oil from my skin, so I would use all of these products that stripped my skin of its natural oils. Nowadays, I’ve learned that your skin needs oil. I have combination, acne-prone skin, I use a mixture of: coconut oil (antibacterial), castor oil (helps the aging process) and tea tree oil (prevents blemishes). It has worked wonders.

3. Get More Sleep

This is a given. Sleep is essential. Did you know that you can actually slow down your metabolism by not getting enough sleep? Or that it ages your skin and causes breakouts? Not to mention, when you don’t get enough sleep, you walk through your day like a zombie (at least I do). Everyone should strive to get 8 solid hours of shuteye. Go to sleep earlier, wake up later, do whatever you need to do but… make it happen!

4. Reduce Stress

I’m all for making time in your life to simply relax. This includes everything from getting a massage, to reading a book, meditating or simply taking a bubble bath. When we’re commuting, working, or stressed for any other reason, our facial muscles tense up. Take a minute and look around next time you’re at work, more than half of the people in the office probably have a crinkle in between their eyebrows. It’s important to relax your facial muscles, and relax your brain. I promise, it’s better than any anti-wrinkle cream you can buy.

5. Reduce Your Vices

Now for the tip that no one wants to hear: reduce your vices. Lower your alcohol consumption and smoke less (or not at all). It’s no secret that smoking and drinking age you like no other. It’s not so good for your mental health, and definitely not so good for your physical health. Skeptical? Try this for 7 solid days, then tell me you don’t feel and look better.

6. Get Active

Keep it right, keep it tight! If you want to look better than you do right now, start exercising. If you’ve been exercising for a while but don’t see any differences, don’t get frustrated. Although, I know that’s easier to say than do. You might need to change up your work out routine. Have fun with it! Our muscles crave movement, so give them what they want. No time? Try these exercises that are easy to practice at home.

7. Drink Water

Last but definitely not least, water. There was a time when I would wake up and not even think about drinking water, I went straight to coffee. Then I would drink more coffee, or tea, or kombucha – you name it – but I really wasn’t drinking water. I was breaking out, bloated all of the time, hungry and really exhausted. Why did I feel this way? I was having 3-4 cups of coffee per day! My mom finally said to me, “Well, how much water do you drink?” It was then that I switched up my routine. I have 2 large glasses of water first thing when I wake up. I bring a sustainable water bottle everywhere that I can re-fill. This is no exaggeration: I’m energized, my skin is clearer, and my stomach is definitely flatter. So please, drink your H20.
