5 Ways to Ignite Your Inner Power

When we are in line with our desire, with the path that feels right, and with our values, we start to invite space for our inner power to grow. Often we associate the word “power” as something negative, we think its about control and manipulation. While yes, some people use their power and resources to create negativity and unhappiness, true power is actually free. It’s very nature is to bloom when we free ourselves from the limits we set. When we let go of the toxic friends, the soul-sucking work and any experiences that don’t serve our happiness, we are truly powerful and we feel “empowered.” The two words are interchangeable. We find our inner power when we give ourselves permission to dream, to act on our dreams and to create space by letting go of anything that isn’t in alignment with this.

Here are 5 specific ways in which we can ignite our inner power to live a higher quality of life.

1. Know your values

I’ve found it to be so vital that we wake up each morning and engage in our day with a clear sense of our values. It affects what we allow into our lives and what we don’t allow, as well as the kind of people we choose to spend our energy on. When we are aware of what is important to us and the specific values, we can move through our day with more focus and clarity, be more assertive and communicate firmly and lovingly with the people around us. For example, if our values are love, courage, authenticity and growth, we use these as anchors to finding greater confidence in making decisions and with our relationships, as well as the relationship we have with ourselves.

2. Practice Extreme Self Care

According to Cheryl Richardson who has published a book titled “The Art of Extreme Self Care”, self care is not an option, it is really a necessity. And I wholeheartedly agree with her point of view. We need to learn how to take care of our bodies as well as our emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. Being burnt out can often lead us to feeling more victim in our decisions and life experiences. Therefore, we owe it to ourselves to slow down, let go of being busy as a status symbol and take the time to figure out what we need and give it to ourselves. This is essential to our sense of power and confidence as well as our ability to act on these.

3. Practice Gratitude and Love

Simply said, when we focus on what we are grateful for, it expands. Just as the law of attraction says, “like attracts like”. When we actually practice gratitude and love by writing or speaking appreciation about what we have and to the people in our lives who matter, we experience expansion and attract like thoughts, sensations, situations and experiences. Essentially, what we focus on grows. In my own life, I’ve found that in the face of fear, it’s easy to live in a scarcity mindset of “not enough”. However, when I realized that our mindset is a choice, I was able to shift and focus on gratitude and love. This is so powerful.

4. Be Open to New Beliefs and Practices

At any point in our lives, we do what we do because of what we know. Knowledge really is power. In the discovery of new knowledge and experience, we have more to draw upon in times of decision and change. We need to open our mind to different beliefs and options in doing things. This doesn’t mean we go along with what everyone suggests, but it does mean that along our journey, we take the time to openly listen and consider different perspectives. Being open to new experiences and ways of thinking is very powerful because it allows us to grow and explore the realm of what we don’t know- well that is until we experience it.

5. Trust Your Gut

Our gut instinct is an extremely powerful source of intelligence. Yes it cannot always be rationally explained, and is quite different from IQ, but it contains a very mysterious and incredibly accurate take on what we desire, how we feel, where we need to go and what we need to do. To listen to our gut and act in alignment with it is probably the most powerful practice we learn to do in our lives.
