get what you want

The First 3 Steps to Get Anything You Want in Life

What do you really want in life? And how’re you going to get it?

Learn the step-by-step formula to get anything you want in life, which you won’t find taught anywhere else. These are the first 3 steps of the 6-step formula. To get the complete formula, see the end of this article.

STEP 1: Discover What You Want

If you already know what you really want in life, then skip this step. But many people get stuck at the first step because they don’t know what they really want. Maybe it’s unclear, maybe you want many different things, or maybe what you want is constantly changing.

What’s the secret sauce to know what you really¬†want in life?

Listen to your heart.

Okay, so how do you do that?

Through self-discovery.

If you don’t have a life coach, you might use journaling and meditation to find out deep down what you really want. You’ll want to get in touch with your deeper self and tap into your intuition. In your journal, you might ask yourself some questions, such as “What do I really want?” and “What is my heart saying it wants?”

I also really enjoyed using The Passion Test, which I give to people in our group coaching program.

The Passion Test shows you how to use your past experience to discover what you’ve always wanted in your life and what’s always been true for you. Use it to identify what’s right for you in your life.

The answer is already within you. You just have to tap into it.

And I’d love to show you how.

STEP 2: Get Crystal Clear on What You Want

This is easily overlooked and way more important than it sounds.

Getting very clear on what you want makes it much easier to get it.

For example, if I want to play the flute, I might first get a somewhat vague feeling or inkling to play the flute. On a deeper level, I might consciously think and be able to articulate, “I’m interested in learning how to play the flute”. And finally, at an even deeper level, I know with conviction and true inner-knowledge, “I absolutely want to know how to play the flute.”

To get clearer, I’d encourage you to write it down. Writing it down makes it more clear, more concrete, and it takes the thought out of your head so that you can see it, and read it back.

This changes everything! It looks and feels more real when you’ve written it down. It’s no longer just a meandering thought in your head. Writing it down forces you to clarify what it is. And this will make it absolutely easier for you to achieve it.

STEP 3: See The Gap and the Little Steps

What does this mean?

Life coaching is all about getting from Point A to Point B. Point A is where you are now. Point B is where you want to go. The space between them is what I call The Gap.

Acknowledge exactly where you are now.

Can you be completely honest with yourself?

And then write down exactly where you want to be, as described in the last step. And now look at the space between here and there.

The big question is: What are the steps you need to take to close the gap? What are the steps you need to complete in order to get from where you are now to where you want to be?

It may sound obvious, but guess how many people don’t do this one simple step.

Said in a different way, if you have a big goal, break it down into mini-goals. Little steps. If I look at a mountain I’m going to climb, how do I feel when I look at the mountain? I’m intimidated and I feel totally overwhelmed!

But if I look at the next 10 steps ahead of me on the trail I’m hiking up, it’s no big deal, just 10 steps.

Looking at the mountain it may seem “impossible”, and I may think “I can’t do it, there’s just no way.” But the next 10 steps ahead of me are totally doable. So look at the gap, but focus on the little steps you’ll take today to get there.
