    Hi Barrie,

    It is true that we can achieve what we can imagine and perceive. But the turning of our dreams and goals into reality depends on our resolve. Yet as you rightly point out, there is always a struggle within us between our desire or status quo and change. That said, I enjoyed reading your 12 strategies on how to strength our resolves. Here are some of my thoughts.

    3. Reduce Overwhelm

    Overwhelm is often a major problem for me as I try to do too much at once. As a result my resolve falters in the face of impossible odds and nothing gets down. As you say, it is important to break it down into small simple tasks. And it is also important to be patient and not overly ambitious when it comes to change. Rome was not built in a day.

    9. Move Past Failure

    From my experiences, I realize that failure is an important part of success. It alerts us to what we are doing wrongly so we can adjust and adapt until we get it right. Failure helps us to differentiate the things that work and those that do not work. Having this view of failure has helped to strengthen my resolve when the going gets tough.

    I also think that it is important to nourish our resolve daily. This means reading or watching things that will inspire and strengthen our resolve. By drawing strength from the examples of others, we can boost the resolve we have within.

    This is absolutely brilliant! At first I thought I was alone and wondering why I just couldn’t break through that barrier. After looking at your 12 steps, I realized that 1) I wasn’t doing the research, 2) I was trying to do it all at once and 3) I wasn’t holding myself responsible.

    Yes, things happen that can sidetrack us but if we are passionate about something (and determined to see it through), nothing can stop us!

    Hi Barrie,
    When I am making a change that I feel good about and also am totally aligned with, the change is easy. If it is a change that I feel overly cautious about doing it is like dragging a sled uphill.

    Change is possible with the right mental approach. You provided a list of some great resources to pull from.

    These are very powerful strategies and I would think that if all were used in combination, the rate of success will be greater. This is a really good post to help us all move in the right direction with some real progress – thanks for this. Connected with the accountability, using other people to help you with that will help for some of the more challenging goals too. When people keep each other accountable as well as inspire one another, some things can be achieved that would be much harder on a solo basis.

    I am envious of that — because sometimes even when I feel good about a change (ie: exercise), it can still be tremendously difficult for me to follow through. I have found that I can make it more tolerable when I find a fun way to do it. I love riding my bike. I hate running. Thanks for your comments!

    Yes, accountability is a great motivator Clint. When I’ve used a personal trainer in the past, I’ve accomplished so much more because he/she is standing there watching me. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a life trainer standing by to help us push past inertia?!

    Visualization is powerful. However, this has to be done daily and you have to be in a meditative state.

    It’s actually fun to see yourself change for the better. Just keep thinking positive and keep the negative crap out (which is hard to do). Once the negative is completely out, you will be thinking positive 100% of the time and your life will be peaceful.

    Hi Barrie !Good post with important steps to overcome the hurdle. Can we add Passion to the list ?. I am passionate for long distance running and I work from monday to saturday and on sunday we do long run and I hardly sleep for 4 hrs and on sunday early morning i start at 4 am. ( nothing stop me from runnning ) but still I am trying to apply such passion for my professional life :-)
