5 Simple Resolutions to Jump Start 2015

“It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living.” ~Eckhart Tolle

When are we going to allow ourselves to start living? Is New Year’s Day going to be that perfect day that everything aligns? Is there a such thing as a perfect time? This year, as I started to slip into resolution mode, something stopped me. For once, I felt the urge to just get started. Forget the date, forget what everyone else is doing and just go. This year is far from over, and I plan to make it an amazing year until the very last day.

Wouldn’t it be an amazing feeling to jump into 2015 with the momentum of success to jump start the best year of your life? Here are 5 simple resolutions that you can make now to get a head start on the new year.

1. Stop talking about what you’re going to do. Resolve to talk about what you’re doing or what you’ve done.

I was working on a team project soon after I made this mental shift. It seemed small enough to me, but always responding with done for every request not only felt good, but it made it easy for my teammates to trust me. I also didn’t tell anyone about my first book until I’d already written it. It’s so much more powerful to say, I wrote a book than I dream of writing one. Show the world that you’re in motion and hold yourself accountable to just do it.

2. Stop fearing discomfort. Resolve to make growth a priority.

There are a certain number of growing pains that life deals out. Living life in search of comfort at all times is a dangerous way to live. While comfort is amazing, and I’m not knocking it, comfort is more of a secondary goal. Growing as a person and learning from new experiences is the main task at hand.

3. Stop buying into the hype. Listen to your own mind.

We all have everything we need to be the best version of ourselves possible. The problem is all of the information coming from every angle that distorts our inner voice. Spend more time listening to yourself and examining what you truly feel before taking the thoughts and opinions of others into consideration.

4. Stop complaining about the little things. Resolve to give yourself more to be thankful for.

We all have so much to be thankful for already, but it’s human to want more. Create more experiences that you know you’ll be thankful for when it’s all over. What have you always dreamed of doing? What’s a small goal or aspiration that just keeps getting overlooked? Bring that to life and you’ll be thankful that you did.

5. Stop waiting for the perfect time. Resolve to start now.

What is one small change that would dramatically change your life if you started now? Is it drinking water daily? Is it walking in the mornings? Meditation? Only you know what that change is for you. Make that change now.

You know that little nagging question that we have in the new year: Am I really going to do better this year? Go into 2015 with proof that you will. You have everything you need to be the best possible you now, in the new year and for years to come. It’s about time you amaze yourself!
