thanks for deciphering goals, visions, aims etc… they always sound similar but actually quite different as you explain

Having a life plan is a smart idea Gary. I am a proponent of asking yourself quality questions about the goals and direction that you have for your future.

When it comes to goals and vision, I believe that it’s better to set short-term goals and focus on daily routine. It’s very hard to imagine your life in 10 years. I think it’s easier to think in terms of months. What would your life look like in 3 months? 6 months? 12 months? 18 months? It’s much easier to work with shorter deadlines and it’s way more motivating.

Agreed Martin. In Apex Lifestyle Design, we encourage you to envision long into the future, but set weekly goals to make that vision a reality.

“Vision: If you don’t know where you want to go, it’s almost impossible to get there. ”

Vision is extremely important in any journey; however, I think you can get started with out knowing exactly where you want to go – and you can still get there.  Often I find people know they want to go before they know where they want to go - and they let their incomplete vision keep them from getting started.   Sometimes the act of getting started itself brings clarity to the vision.  You can always change directions if something doesn’t fit for you – but if you don’t get started you will certainly never get there.

Good insight Lori! Yes, it’s important to start – take action – even if you don’t feel completely ready. Sometimes that’s fear holding you back. However, you need to have some sort of vision (at least a direction as you say) to get started. That’s why it’s so important to get to know the true you – your deepest desires, strengths/weaknesses – before you go too far down the wrong path.

Thank you for providing the insight to use a life plan to create the path to the life you want to live. I agree with your sentiments however for me it’s such a struggle to get  my subconscious mind to move towards my vision. It’s almost like a war is taking place to undo the programming that is embedded in my subconscious mind. This causes an enormous amount of confusion and frustration. What steps can I take to change this?

  • http://twitter.com/ApexLifeDesign Gary Polsky

Loddy, It is difficult to de-program from what other people expect of you, what you were taught, and what you are truly passionate about. The main step is to really take time to reflect on you…what makes you feel completely happy and fulfilled, what do you feel is most important in life, what do you do well, what do you need help doing…and from there settling in on a vision for your life. Once you have a vision, set goals, weekly goals, to stay laser focused on your vision! Hope that helps.  It may be difficult, but the ultimate fulfillment is worth the journey!
