“Your perception is your reality” – how true is that!! And the next sentence goes “so if you want to change your reality, alter your perception..”. Great post – thanks.

Its really great when read this article, its really can make my confidence coming out again. I really agree with this statement “Your Perception Is Your Reality” its really hard to control perception if you cannot control your mind.

    thanks

    Dear Writer,
I am really thankful for your article as it has removed the clouds from my head. I had really unusual day yesterday and was trying to find the answer but was totally unable and unsuccessful. Thank you that your article has given me proper answer.

I am fully agree with you. We need to change the perception. Our own ‘lens’. Like one of your comment person is saying ‘Your perception is your reality’.

I was really sucked yesterday by one family incident with one of the greedy family member. Deep down I found that, it was my wrong perception, who has made me suck not that greedy person.

I have started one blog for the useful tip to the world (actually for myself, to make myself more improved). Can I represent this article on my blog with your name and details?

I am ready for your any kind of answer, but please do reply.

Thanks and keep writing this kind of awesome article.

    Hariaum :)

The moment that I pointed the finger at myself is the moment my life changed fot the better. Even though I know that, I still catch my self doing it from time to time.

I love your CPU analogy, we are all programed by others or ourselves to think a certain way. Doesn’t mean we can’t change it though. I myself dumped the PC and got a MAC and I ain’t goin back…

    • Blast from the Past

This computer I’m writing on (a Windows PC) isn’t mine. I don’t even own a computer, so what are you if you have a typewriter and an Amiga?

Probably more stuck in deja vu than a lot of people, I guess! :-)

    • Blast from the Past

Btw, I thought it interesting that this article has a heading of Day 42.

Anyone who’s familiar with the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy would interpret this as their chance to be the ultimate answer to their own questions of life, the universe, and everything.

      Now don’t panic! :o )

    Very Insightful Article
    Thanks

Sorry, but this just sounds like another way to say “be happy with what you got” or at least that’s my perception of it.
If you lose your job and are bummed about it, you could change how you feel about it all you want, but whose going to provide for yourself or your family?

You can perceive the world however you want, but the world doesn’t give a rats ass how you feel and won’t stop at nothing to tear you down.

please explain b/c i currently hate my life

  • http://www.lorirtaylor.com lori taylor

RC I’m sorry you hate your life. I’ve been there – I really have. And I go back there occasionally. Ok, more than occasionally. But I swear to you, if you could just believe that your external world is a reflection of your internal world, you would see that you can not let losing your job mean anything more than you lost your job. As a mother of 5 who is the sole supporter for her family, I have empathy for the fear you. If you could find a way to stop placing meaning on this situation you are in then you could see the path to something even better. I know it doesn’t do any good for me to give it new meaning for you either because your filter is different than mine. For example, if I had orange colored glasses on and looked at a white wall I’d tell you it was orange. You’d think I was crazy – because you KNOW it’s white you are looking at it. This is the same thing. Is there anything positive you could find? Did you hate your job? Did you hate your boss? Do you have more time to spend with your family that you could maximize until you find your next job? Find ONE thing that makes you happy. And do it over and over and over – change your internal frequency – believe and have faith good will come. But please don’t hate your life, or yourself. I know you are a beautiful person, we all are, you just have too much darkness between you and “him”. Again, this article was written based on my experience and my belief system, it’s certainly not “gospel”. But it worked for me and so many others I know who have suffered. I hope you can find some truth here for you.
Please know I am not making light of your situation, of which I know nothing. I’m just one human being reaching out to another who “hates his life”. I know one thing, you wouldn’t be at Pick The Brain if you weren’t TRYING to feel better. You’ll find your way back to you.

  • http://www.lorirtaylor.com lori taylor

Saurabh Chavda sorry for my delatyed response – of course you can. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a nice comment. You made my day – I’m so glad my article helped even one person – makes it worth it. :) Good luck on your blog – I’m sure you’ll do well.

  • http://www.lorirtaylor.com lori taylor

Zack – I’m so glad! Your perception IS your reality – unfortunately so is your customer’s LOL. But seriously, you nailed the point of this article – it’s the little shifts that can have the BIGGEST impact. And if someone is hurting you, see the child in them that’s doing it. Adults know better and we left brain ourselves out of childhood pains, but there is an 8 year old in you, me, them that didn’t know then what we know now and he’s still a part of you. I know you are going to rock it in 2011!

  • http://www.lorirtaylor.com lori taylor

Nick thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I think I hear you saying you wanted a better user experience and interface! HA love my mac too–seemed odd at first and now I just roll with it. Don’t think life is much different- because it is NOT! :) Go for it in 2011 -Mac Daddy! LOL

Lori.. I had to laugh when I read the title on this… Maybe it’s you! Shocker… Sometimes I wish I had the attitude of people I meet that are in love with the world… Great ideas, I will try to implement them into my life!

  • conforzi

Lori, Let me commend you for your timely comment, it has inspired me,hope 2011 you will share more.

Hi Lori, thank you. That was a good piece. If we cannot change a situation, then we must have to change how we think about that situation.
Most of our problems in life come from the way we think about our selves.Change your selves and your circumstances will change alike.

    Thanks.Cheers!

If we could spend more effort on our being and less on our doing, we could maintain a healthy perspective. Not enough people realize that the way we feel is in direct proportion to what we perceive.

    Right on Lori!

Your outside world is always a direct reflection of your inside world. In essence, the world is your mirror. In order for your outside world to change you must first change “you”. It is a hard fact to swallow but once you do amazing things begin to happen in your life.

I know this for a fact. As soon as I assumed full responsibility for everything that happened to me and made changes within myself, my whole world changed for the better.

Thanks for such an inspiring post!
    Anthony

Lori, Great article! Was feeling sorry for myself and being alone. Needed someone to motivate me to change the situation. Made me realize that “someone” is me ;-) I put down the little packet of cashews and put on some Disco Music and gettin’ down to Square Biz. as Teena Marie would sing. Thanks!!!

Thanks for the awesome words, I wrote down some quotes from your article to keep in my bag to remind me that reality is my perception when I get upset at my new job.

Something I struggle with is obsessing over the times I have not owned my perceptions and behaved badly or short tempered. Any insightful quotes about letting go and forgiving yourself that i can add to my handbag?

    Thank you so much Lori,
    Hilary.

    Hi Lori,
I am so glad I found this community! and the fact that you sent the Messy Pig article on a day that I have so much decluttering to do.. is hilarious.. but the thing is.. I have been to the thrift store twice this week with donations… I just have to make say 8 more trips..and I will be done. Your download with all the references to books is fabulous. I look at these websites all the time but yours is something special. I AM going to work the confidence plan… your points are SO GOOD.. I just wanted to send you a heartfelt thanks for the article.

    Well said…

Very uplifting thought and a wonderful article. We all have our highs and lows and how we choose to respond to a particular situation rests within our control. Most of us would have a similar response to an adverse situation and that’s perhaps one of the reason we are here in this community to read and share our thoughts. We live a lifetime during our testing times. It’s all about our state of mind and our “perception”.We tend to engage in self pity and point fingers at someone or blame the situation…..trying to look for answers outside. The fact is all answers lie within us. We have defined “good” n “bad” and this is perhaps the reason for our pain.

I am fortunate to have come across this site and a wonderful article. I am going through a challenging phase of being without a job and trying to make sense of all that is currently happening in my life.It was my decision to quit the job and I take the responsibility for it.Now I am struggling to find a good opening and people on whom I had counted most their backs towards me.It hurts but I have to live and walk past this phase. There is something better in store.I am a married man and have a family to support. The only way to get over this phase is to believe in yourself and the Almighty. There is always a reason behind everything that happens. It really helps to read such inspiring articles.

Marcus Aurelius said, “If you are distressed by anything external, the pain
is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the
power to revoke at any moment.” No one can hurt your feelings or make you feel
less valuable as a person, unless you allow it. It’s your life; make it what you
    need it to be.

So, I am up late again looking for solutions. I know that I am a decent, honest and great person who has a lot to offer and I am forever trying to improve myself. Despite thinking life would be so much easier, if I was ignorant and just breezed through life thinking I don’t need to change anything like a lot of people seem to do. I have been wanting to pursue a career and have been told by many in the now that I am very talented in the area which interests me, I am also very passionate. I have plans, always positive ways to move forward which sadly I never do and things never get completed. I have M.E and good intentions get binned as I am too exhausted or ill. I am happy by nature but know this is dragging me down. In my mind I know I can achieve all my career and life goals but my body is letting me down and stopping me. Are there any self help gurus who can seriously help me? Without giving me silly or patronising answers as my mind made the shift into believing I can achieve ages ago. Any reasonable and practical ideas would be great. Thanks

It is true that this world or the nature as a whole is ruled by our mind. We get what we dream of. If we dream of negativity we get that.

    good one Lori!

Seems to me like a good way to be a good little passive agent in society.  Works well in our right wing political system “it’s not the system it’s me”.  Mind bubble gum and opiate of the masses.  This will make you content in your selfishness while people including children in America are going hungry and I guess I’m not supposed to get angry about that and let it bother me.  Provocative opinions are now considered delusions, and nobody can do anything dramatic about it because in America you can lose your job at the drop of a hat.
