I hate the fact that society uses our fear response so much to try to sell us stuff: insurance, pills, yogurt, toothpaste etc.

One of my favorite affirmations for overcoming fear and feeling more relaxed is “I can handle it”.

    Hi Dr. Clark.

Fear sure is used as a marketing ploy far more than we sense at first glance. It works really well, and most do not see what is being used. At the same time, I am tricked on some levels.

I do work with a similar mindset to what you are saying there, filtering out material that isn’t useful, and making sure to use the right words so I don’t weaken my chance at my goals.

    Thanks for this.

Words can’t express how much I enjoyed this article. I recently published an article about taking care of yourself to naturally prevent swine flu (and any other illness/disease/condition) rather than running out for vaccines and medical visits. It’s been interesting watching fear of illness spread even faster than illness itself. Sometimes I just want to say, “Everybody chill out!!” All is well.

Eduard: Thanks for the comment. I would encourage you to not hate however that only invites retaliation and fear. I also like your idea of ‘handling fear’ because our words certainly can help us. With fear however it is also important to realize that handling it is essential because like it or not, our feelings, including fear, are part of the human condition. Clark

Armen: I am grateful for your taking the time to write. Keep filtering and shining the light of your mind on effective words. Blessings. Clark.

Nea: Thanks for your positive comments. Just make sure you keep ‘chilling out’ yourself. That is the best way to change your world and extend love to others for as you said all is well. Thanks again. Clark.

I’d never really looked at it from that perspective. With a little reflections I see how people around me are sick because of fear. It’s funny because I don’t really fear getting sick and hardly ever do. But I do wash my hands on a regular basis. :)

  • clark falconer

Dee: Thanks for your comment. Of course it is a contradiction in part to my piece, as I sense you may feel your hand washing is to your own fears, but the facts are that part of being human is not only living with fear but also dread. In my piece and in my book I attempt to show how we can successfully manage this, in particular the fear that we and others go about manufacturing and putting into us. The question for us all is how do we contain it in a creative way on a day to day basis, always knowing that fear and dread are essential to anything creative and make up part of LOVE. If you choose to read my book I’d love to hear your comments. Thanks again. Clark.

    Dr. Falconer,

Have you read the book “The Culture of Fear: Why Americans Are Afraid of the Wrong Things”? I think you might enjoy it, since it is very similar to your topic. It’s more in the style of “Freakonomics” or “The World is Flat”, and I am a fan of that writing style. Do you have a Twitter username? I’d like to follow you, mine is @simple_truths (it’s for the company that I work for). We also have blog, it’s http://blog.simpletruths.com.

    Thanks!

I really enjoy the topic and the approach. For me personally fear is the biggest enemy because it destroys my efforts to be calm and happy. Therefore I would be happy to read more about this.

I will for sure buy your book, dr. Falconer!

Thank you for spreading these ideas!

    Thanks to you.

Chirsitina: My gratitude to you. Please read the book slowly as an experience. Let it wash over you slowly. Don’t spend a lot of time initially understanding that comes later. Blessings. Clark.

Valuable insights. It’s amazing what we can accomplish and how much better we feel when we move away from a language of fear. We do have the power to make our workplaces and personal lives much more enjoyable by being mindful of the words we use. It takes some time and commitment but it feels great once we do it.
