Okay, that does it. Since you persist in hot pink pop-ups that cover the screen, I guess there’s not much left to read. UNSUBBING!

This is wonderful! Learn boredom to combat boredom. It sounds hilarious but I think this is really a good way to increase productivity and to avoid procrastination.

Every man is unique he can choose his own way for peace of mind,. overcome to negative emotion.so we must not force everyone to do meditation. Meditation is developed mainly in India.Purpose of meditation in India is achieve the liberation from this mundane life.Aim of western civilization is quite different how can meditation is useful to western man?

Meditation is associated with the Eastern way of life but not necessarily Indian. Also, Western approach has always been outward manifesttaion of things including looking for happiness/peace. However, it has been acknowledged for so long that the eastern arts of meditation and concentrataion, be it through yoga, taichi, qi gong etc all revolve around controlling the vicissitudes of the mind.

I like this article and will certainly try this.

Thanks, Nea. I find a lot of practices are like that. The benefits you get are not necessarily the ones that were advertised, or that you started out looking for.

Ramesh, it’s an interesting paradox, isn’t it? It seems like meditation is just a beneficial practice that can be turned to many ends.

wonderfully written- a very practical approach to the experience- very well ‘putting in words’.Though i am in the field of Yoga, meditation , I thought , was not my forte. But now, I’ll def.ly look at it with a more open mind , knowing that my experiences are also shared by few others too!

Meditation is ‘Defocussing of mind’ thus giving rest to the everturbulant mental processes and ultimately calming down the mind , not only during meditation but also at all other times.

I have to admit that I have never heard of meditations benefits being discussed in the same way you just described them, but you are right. People think meditation is some mystical practice where they wait to receive spiritual enlightenment. While that does happen to some, for many of us, meditation is a process of taking our focus away from the outside world and just getting still.

I facilitate meditation practices at our spiritual center. This often includes a guided meditation or a contemplation of a specific piece of scripture or words of enlightenment. I think it is easier for most people to practice this type of meditation because there is a place for them to focus their thoughts. However, just being still — or sitting in the silence — is much more challenging, but it has greater benefits (I think)including the ability to just become comfortable with ourselves.

People put nowhere near enough emphasis on the stillness aspect. I think that’s one of the first things a lot of people notice when they start a meditation practice: “Wow, how am I not able to just sit still? Am I a child?”

    Great article.
