{"id":68039,"date":"2019-08-01T20:13:14","date_gmt":"2019-08-02T04:13:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/?p=68039"},"modified":"2019-08-01T20:13:14","modified_gmt":"2019-08-02T04:13:14","slug":"break-out-of-comfort-zone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/blog\/break-out-of-comfort-zone\/","title":{"rendered":"Are You Too Comfortable? 3 Tips To Break Out of Your Comfort Zone"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div>\n<p>Have you become complacent in life?&nbsp;We all seek to have\ncomfort in our lives, but comfort is not creative. It doesn\u2019t drive us to seek\nmore, but rather maintain and accept what is. Your comfort zone is what is\nfamiliar and\/or safe to you. You cannot stay in your comfort zone and change at\nthe same time. Change occurs outside your comfort zone. When you are too\ncomfortable, you stop seeking to improve and better yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I\u2019m not talking about what is comfortable for our bodies. It\nis more about what is comfortable for our minds. Our comfort zone is all about\nwhat is comfortable for us mentally. What we have defined ourselves as, what we\nhave defined ourselves as not.&nbsp;What we are capable of and what we aren\u2019t\ncapable of. What if none of that is permanent? Often times I see with clients,\nthey have what is comfortable to them and they shut out all other information\nand reject any new experiences that does not match their comfort zone.&nbsp;They\nwill dismiss and disregard any information that is contrary to what they have\ndecided they are comfortable with.&nbsp; Here\nare three tools to help you in breaking out of your comfort zone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Choice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This might seem obvious, but the greatest gift you have is your\nability to choose. If you notice you have become complacent in any area of your\nlife, make another choice. Go left instead of right. Breaking out of you\ncomfort zone is always a choice and it can be as easy as going left instead of\nright. What can you choose that will be more fun?&nbsp; That will be an\nadventure? Making a different choice can be uncomfortable. The discomfort not a\nwrongness, it is you stepping out of your comfort zone. Just know the\ndiscomfort is an indication you are changing. Enjoy it. Celebrate it. When you\nstart exercising or learning a new skill, there can be some discomfort as your\nbody adapts and evolves to the new experiences. Same is true here.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fear vs. Excitement?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fear and excitement feel\nvery similar in the body. Both involve adrenaline rushes. People often\nmisinterpret excitement as fear, especially when breaking out of their comfort\nzones. They say, \u201coh no I couldn\u2019t do that, it\u2019s too scary.\u201d&nbsp; Well is it\nreally scary or is it unfamiliar? When breaking out of you comfort zone, it\nisn\u2019t familiar. There are unknowns because it is outside of what you have\ndefined you as. To stop interpreting fear as excitement just ask when you are\n\u201cafraid,\u201d Is this fear or excitement? Be honest with yourself.&nbsp;Also, the\nfear response is a biological response for when your life is in danger. If you\nare thinking about expanding your business, giving a presentation, or going on\na date, is your life in any danger? No, so it is probably excitement. Keep\nasking this question when \u201cafraid or fearful?\u201d to recondition yourself to\nunderstand how exciting it will be break out of your comfort zone.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Everything is the opposite it appears to be. Nothing is the\nopposite it appears to be.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is called the crazy\nphrase of Access Consciousness\u00ae and rightfully so, as it makes no sense. I use\nit when I cannot seem to break out of my comfort zone, or I am fighting with my\nmind and everything telling me not to make a different choice.&nbsp;Also, when\nI am really uncomfortable. To use it; just say, \u201ceverything is the opposite it\nappears to be. Nothing is the opposite it appears to be.\u201d Usually, by the tenth\ntime of saying it to myself, I have more of a sense of peace and relaxation and\nease with stepping out of my comfort zone. Why does it work? Because breaking out\nof you comfort zone makes no sense to your mind either. I like to think they\ncancel each other out.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember change can only\noccur outside your comfort zone. So, if you would like to change, start making\nchooses that are uncomfortable for you and create a life beyond complacency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrewgardella.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Dr.&nbsp;Andrew&nbsp;Gardella<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/a><em>is chiropractor who\nhas worked as an&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessconsciousness.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Access Consciousness<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em>since 2011.
