{"id":6034,"date":"2011-04-24T23:50:55","date_gmt":"2011-04-25T07:50:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/?p=6034"},"modified":"2013-09-09T10:51:39","modified_gmt":"2013-09-09T18:51:39","slug":"3-power-tricks-to-supercharge-your-day-with-gratitude-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/blog\/3-power-tricks-to-supercharge-your-day-with-gratitude-2\/","title":{"rendered":"3 Power Tricks To Supercharge Your Day With Gratitude"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why is it so hard for you to say, \u201cthank you\u201d to you, when you say thank you to complete strangers every day (or at least I hope you do).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If someone holds the door, or even when a waiter brings you the check asking you for money, you say \u201cthank you\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Heck many times you take the time to give lip service to be polite, but at least you <em>say it, right?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>So if it&#8217;s that easy, when is the last time you told YOU thank you? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank you for my beating heart, thank you lungs for my breath, thank you legs for all you do\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Do you ever say that?\u00a0 It\u2019s doubtful.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, if you want to connect with your true power, your subconscious, or spirit, taking the time to simply say thank you is a GAME CHANGER.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you don\u2019t believe me, try one of these 3 power tricks to supercharge your day with gratitude. <!--more--><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>#1 Use Better Words<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My mama told me too many times to count, \u201cSticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you\u201d.\u00a0 She was a liar.\u00a0 And if you believe this, you&#8217;re lying to yourself, too, so STOP.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Language is EVERYTHING. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Should you believe everything you hear? Of course not, especially if someone else says it.<\/p>\n<p>Do you anyway? Usually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On some level you let criticism feed into your low self-esteem to confirm what you already \u201cknow\u201d\u2026you aren\u2019t good enough.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Yet even if you manage to overcome critique from others knowing they can\u2019t define you if you don\u2019t let them, you&#8217;re still only part of the way there.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Because that\u2019s not what\u2019s draining you, really. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>YOU are.<\/p>\n<p>With an internal assault of words, constantly comparing and contrasting, you are giving yourself a 24\/7 commentary on how you&#8217;re doing, every single minute, is what&#8217;s holding you back.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is your big OPPORTUNITY to become aware of how you are feeling!\u00a0 Listen to your crazy thoughts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Then instead of saying, <em>\u201cDon\u2019t be an asshole today\u201d,<\/em> try telling yourself, <em>\u201cI\u2019m going to be careful with my words today.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Or, change your words from, <em>\u201cI\u2019m NOT going to get pissed off today\u201d<\/em> to, <em>\u201cI\u2019m going to be in a great mood today.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Let me give you a perfect example of how this works.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My son is a super stud baseball pitcher. He throws hard, fast and straight down the middle.\u00a0 He\u2019s almost impossible to hit. But, if you are a super stud hitter and make contact with that ball? It\u2019s going one place &#8211; straight out of the park to home run city.<\/p>\n<p>Like every other pitcher, he loves no hitters, but if they got hot, he melts from anxiety of not being &#8220;perfect&#8221;.\u00a0 Until I told him to THINK differently by accepting they were hitting because they were that good, not because he sucked.<\/p>\n<p>I told him to start telling himself, <em>\u201cWow, that guy was a hitter \u2013nice.\u00a0 Now let\u2019s see what the next guy\u2019s got \u2013 because he\u2019s gonna have to bring it to hit off me.\u201d<\/em><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I\u2019ll tell you the truth &#8211; he didn\u2019t believe me at first &#8211; until I had him do a simple exercise which you should try now\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Walk across the room and tell yourself over and over, <em>\u201cI\u2019m NOT going to fall down.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Where were your eyes? Most likely on the ground \u2013 not up in a state of power.<\/p>\n<p><em>You focus your attention on what you aren\u2019t going to do, putting your body in a state to actually do the thing you are trying to avoid!!!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now try this exercise again. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This time say, <em>\u201cI\u2019m going to stay up.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Where are your eyes now?<\/p>\n<p>They can\u2019t help but look upwards or even towards the sky. By telling yourself you\u2019ve got this, you will walk across the room confidently, your eyes naturally looking up or straight ahead, increasing your chances of staying upright.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eliminate any words like:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Not, can\u2019t, won\u2019t, stop, not going to, don\u2019t want<\/p>\n<p><strong>Change your language patterns to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Will, can, do, want, must, believe<\/p>\n<p><strong>Move from:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m not going to eat crap today\u201d<\/em> to <em>\u201cI\u2019m going to be the picture of health today.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you can be aware,\u00a0 CORRECT your language until it becomes a habit, this one small shift will shift the energy in your entire body and spread into your life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#2 Use A Better Tone<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I bet you could tell me at least 3 things your parents told you growing up that still sting today.<\/p>\n<p>And guess what?<\/p>\n<p>You say them to yourself more than you think.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true.<\/p>\n<p>Listen to your inner voice, what does it sound like?\u00a0 Mine comes across with a tough love mojo which comforts me.<\/p>\n<p>When I get scared, I immediately jump on me, triggering anger and almost immediately tell myself, <em>\u201cGet your big girl pants on, don\u2019t be such a wuss.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It works, I guess. I do stomp forward aggressively &#8211; getting it done. Of course in the process I push people out of the way who may have been able to <em>help<\/em> me get there more effortlessly had I opened my energy up to receive help.<\/p>\n<p>Do you see how this isn\u2019t serving me?\u00a0 Anytime you use getting angry to move out of fear means you&#8217;re living an angry life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start talking to yourself the way you would a child.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you make a mistake or do something you aren\u2019t proud of try telling yourself what you\u2019d tell a child. Or just find the words you wish someone would give to you.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOf course you bit their head off. You hadn\u2019t eaten, were working on 3 hours sleep and were getting ready to miss a deadline. You love to achieve, get things done and keep your promises. Just apologize to your co-worker and do your best to be more collaborative under stress and remember you&#8217;re doing the best you can with the resources you have.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sounds simple, right? It is!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Being empathetic to YOU should be easy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s what we all want from the people in our lives.\u00a0 So why not start with you?\u00a0 <em>If you don\u2019t give it to yourself, who will?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Why bully yourself with words of wisdom like, \u201cYou are such an ass when you\u2019re in work mode. Why do you jump on people? You can be really selfish when you are stressed \u2013 no wonder everyone avoids you at work\u201d?<\/p>\n<p><strong>How does that serve you when you are choosing the words and can say ANYTHING you want to you??? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You see?<\/p>\n<p>L<em>anguage is EVERYTHING as is the TONE in which YOU speak to YOU.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>#3 Write It Down<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This one trick will change your filter for your life<\/p>\n<p><strong>No matter what happens to your day, before you go to bed, write down 3 things that happened that day that made you smile.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chances are you&#8217;re\u00a0 probably so caught up in seeing the spots of your day, trying to clean those up, you&#8217;ve forgotten some of the good stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Finding kindness in your day can be as simple as actually noticing and <em>remembering<\/em> the store clerk who smiled at you, someone who held your door, or even an unexpected hug from a child.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> Believe and you will receive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The only thing you need to do all day is LOOK for three things to write down.\u00a0 A simple thank you is something worth noting.<\/p>\n<p>Please take the time over the next week to practice this. You\u2019ll be shocked at the kindness you DO receive but miss because you are too focused on what you are NOT getting.<\/p>\n<p>Changing your life is hard.
