I\u2019m confident you can still create your best year yet, even with less than six months left.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">But you\u2019ll have to do the one thing our brains hate \u2014 <strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">change<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Change is a necessary part of life.<\/strong> You must be willing to surrender what you are for what you can become.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Change doesn\u2019t always mean adding things to life, sometimes it means dropping things that are limiting your progress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Quit these six things and your life will change. Not just for the next six months but the rest of your life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"section section--body\">\n<div class=\"section-content\">\n<div class=\"section-inner sectionLayout--insetColumn\">\n<h2 class=\"graf graf--h3\">1. Quit Dwelling on Your Past\u00a0Failures<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"graf graf--blockquote graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\"><p>\u201cYour life is controlled by what you focus on.\u201d\u200a\u2014\u200aTony Robbins<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">While you should always learn from your mistakes, don\u2019t dwell on them and live in the past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Focusing on the past robs you of the present AND the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">To change your focus, do a quick recap of the year thus far. This way you can learn from it and look ahead to the future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Ask yourself these questions (out loud) and write your answers in a journal:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"postList\">\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--li-em\">What worked in my life thus far?\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--li-em\">What could have I changed thus far? Why didn\u2019t I?<\/em><\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--li-em\">What held me back from reaching my goals?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Once you have clarity on your past you can learn and move forward to making the necessary changes to improve your life.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"graf graf--h3\">2. Quit Setting The Wrong\u00a0Goals<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"graf graf--blockquote graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\"><p>\u201cThe journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.\u201d\u200a\u2014\u200aLao Tzu<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">In the same journal, create <em>four<\/em> goals for the next 90 days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Create an outcome goal for each of these areas: <em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">health, wealth, social self, and personal enrichment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">As Craig Ballantyne said,<em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\"> \u201cBy setting just one goal for these four areas you remain laser-focused on what matters. If you set too many goals you end up without any priorities at all. Too many ambitious people make that mistake.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Four goals are the perfect amount, enough to reach all areas but not too many so you can\u2019t focus on achieving them all. These are your outcome goals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">To achieve your outcome goals create smaller steps, known as <em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">process goals.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">This helps chunk your big goals into small, achievable, bite-sized pieces to work toward them on a daily basis.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"graf graf--h4\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--h4-strong\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--h4-em\">Example:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--h4-strong\">Outcome Goal<\/strong>: Lose 10 pounds in the next 90 days<\/h4>\n<ol class=\"postList\">\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Have one green juice per day<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Run 12 miles per week<\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\">Workout with weights 4x per week<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Write your goals down, review them regularly, and start making them happen!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"section section--body\">\n<div class=\"section-divider\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"section-content\">\n<div class=\"section-inner sectionLayout--insetColumn\">\n<h2 class=\"graf graf--h3\">3. Quit Being Around the Same\u00a0People<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"graf graf--blockquote graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\"><p>\u201cYou are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Choose wisely.\u201d\u200a\u2014\u200aJim Rohn<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">Is your circle of friends helping or hurting you?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Are they challenging you and making you better or making it easy to settle?<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Start being around new people to create new experiences.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">You need to surround yourself with people who remind you more of your future \u2014 not of your past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">If your inner circle is dragging you down, it\u2019s time to audit your friends. If they aren\u2019t helping you, they\u2019re hurting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">It\u2019s time to find new, uplifting, and positive friends. The problem is that it isn\u2019t always easy to find them. UNLESS you reverse engineer your chance of meeting like-minded people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><em>How?<\/em> Attending seminars and events on topics and with people that you want to be around.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">Attend at least one new seminar or event in 2018.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">The most successful people in the world are always growing and developing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Find one event and commit to going in 2018. Buy the ticket now to hold yourself accountable.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"section section--body\">\n<div class=\"section-content\">\n<div class=\"section-inner sectionLayout--insetColumn\">\n<h2 class=\"graf graf--h3\">4. Even if it\u2019s waking up 10 minutes earlier, a morning routine can set your day up for success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Do one of these of these rituals for 10 minutes each morning <em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">before<\/em> checking your email, texting or scrolling through social media.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"postList\">\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--li-em\">Write your goals down in a journal<\/em><\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--li-em\">Meditate<\/em><\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--li-em\">Read something inspiring<\/em><\/li>\n<li class=\"graf graf--li\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--li-em\">Watch motivational videos<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">You\u2019ll start the day refreshed, energized, and ready to win the day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"section section--body\">\n<div class=\"section-content\">\n<div class=\"section-inner sectionLayout--insetColumn\">\n<h2 class=\"graf graf--h3\">5. Then change your environment, stop the willpower madness already.\u201d\u200a\u2014\u200aBenjamin Hardy<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">As Benjamin Hardy said, <em>\u201cWillpower doesn&#8217;t work.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Willpower is a muscle, like any muscle it can be overworked and fail.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Instead of relying on your willpower muscle, change your environment to make it easier to accomplish your goals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><em>Do you want to start running each morning?<\/em> Lay your shoes out so you roll out of bed into them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><em>Do you want to quit eating that food that kills your diet?<\/em> Don\u2019t have it in the house and don\u2019t even go down that aisle in the store.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Set yourself up for success by changing your environment!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"section section--body\">\n<div class=\"section-content\">\n<div class=\"section-inner sectionLayout--insetColumn\">\n<h2 class=\"graf graf--h3\">6. Quit Staying in Your Comfort\u00a0Zone<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"graf graf--blockquote graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\"><p>\u201cThe sooner your step away from your comfort zone you\u2019ll realize that it really wasn\u2019t all that comfortable.\u201d\u200a\u2014\u200aEddie Harris Jr.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">RUN \u2014 JUMP \u2014 LEAP \u2014 whatever you need to do to get out of your comfort zone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">The same job, same friends, same morning habits, and the same nights will create the same experiences.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Don\u2019t live the same year over and over again. Mix up your routines, habits, environment, and people you surround yourself with.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Step out of your comfort zone as often as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">The five habits above will help get out of your comfort zone but I challenge you to keep thinking different. Go skydiving, take a bucket list trip, or sign up for your 1st marathon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Challenge your mind and body to achieve more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Remember, your comfort zone is where dreams go to die.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"graf graf--h3\">Final Thoughts<\/h2>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Don\u2019t wait until 2019 to start living the life you deserve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\"><strong>Drop these six bad habits and start living your life \u2014 no more settling for mediocrity.<\/strong> You don&#8217;t need to wait until next week, next month or next year to start changing your life.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, improving isn&#8217;t always about adding to your life.
