{"id":43560,"date":"2016-08-28T19:49:40","date_gmt":"2016-08-29T03:49:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/?p=43560"},"modified":"2017-05-27T08:48:34","modified_gmt":"2017-05-27T16:48:34","slug":"newtons-law-of-productivity-a-simple-daily-practice-that-will-make-you-unstoppable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/blog\/newtons-law-of-productivity-a-simple-daily-practice-that-will-make-you-unstoppable\/","title":{"rendered":"Newton\u2019s Law Of Productivity:  A Simple Daily Practice That Will Make You Unstoppable"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><\/p>\n<p>Being productive.<\/p>\n<p>Getting more done.<\/p>\n<p>We say we want to do this, but we often find ourselves reverting back to our not-so productive habits.<\/p>\n<p>And all of our time spent learning about different productivity tips and \u201chacks\u201d doesn\u2019t seem to help.\u00a0 We know we should be doing our Pomodoro sessions and turning off the Internet while we work, but instead we keep ourselves \u201cbusy\u201d with things like:<\/p>\n<p>Checking out what\u2019s happening on our favorite social media sites every couple of hours (or even more often than that)\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Obsessively checking our inboxes to get that latest email fix\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Spending time chatting with our friends and colleagues (while convincing ourselves that this classifies as \u201cwork\u201d)\u2026<\/p>\n<p>And checking the \u201ceasy\u201d items off on our to-do lists, when we know deep down what we should be spending time on.<\/p>\n<p>Pretty soon the entire day has gone by and we feel like we\u2019ve accomplished nothing.<\/p>\n<p>And you probably have a good idea of just how productive you would be if you could just <em>stop <\/em>doing the things mentioned above.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, it\u2019s much easier to say \u201ctoday I\u2019m going to just work and get stuff done\u201d than it is to actually do it.<\/p>\n<p>Below I\u2019m going to outline a very simple system, based on Newton\u2019s First Law of Motion, that will practically force you to become more productive than you ever thought possible.<\/p>\n<p>The First Law states that \u201cobjects in motion tend to stay in motion.\u201d\u00a0 This system is all about using this law to develop a proper foundation for being ultra-productive.<\/p>\n<p>This foundation consists of the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Getting Enough Sleep<\/strong> \u2013 According to scientific research, our health and productivity depends on us getting enough sleep.\u00a0 The leading experts state that we need 7 to 9 hours of sleep per day to perform at peak levels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meditation<\/strong> \u2013 Over 1,400 scientific studies have proven the incredible benefits of meditation.\u00a0 Most importantly as it relates to productivity, meditation increases our will power. We\u2019ll need this will power to resist the many daily distractions we face.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proper Diet<\/strong> \u2013 Eating right also has a tremendous effect on our productivity.\u00a0 The easiest way to see a boost in your energy levels is to eliminate processed foods from your diet and make sure you eat plenty of green vegetables.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exercise<\/strong> \u2013 Exercise not only increases our energy and our ability to focus, it\u2019s also been proven to grow new brain cells as well.<\/p>\n<p>You might have even experimented with adopting some of these habits only to have them fall off after a couple of weeks (or even sooner).<\/p>\n<p>But when we use the Newton\u2019s Law to help us adopt these habits, we can make them automatic in a very short amount of time.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a 3-step system for doing exactly that:<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Step 1:\u00a0 Start by making a conscious effort to get enough sleep.<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Here is where you\u2019ll want to focus most of your willpower.<\/p>\n<p>The easiest way I\u2019ve found to adopt this habit is to set a \u201cnight time alarm.\u201d\u00a0 This involves scheduling a time every night where you\u2019re going to shut off all distracting electronics and begin getting ready for bed.<\/p>\n<p>Then make waking up at a decent hour the #1 thing on your to do-list for the following day.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Step 2:\u00a0 After you\u2019ve woken up and brushed your teeth, meditate as soon as you can.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>This is probably the most critical step for making the system work.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve found that 20 minutes is the perfect amount of time to meditate in the morning, but this does take some practice to work up to.<\/p>\n<p>So I recommend starting with 5 to 10 minutes and building upon that.<\/p>\n<p>(Note:\u00a0 if even 5 minutes seems impossible for you, go with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/always-take-action-ditching-nothing-mindset\/\">mini-habit<\/a> strategy of meditating for just one minute.)<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Step 3:\u00a0 After you meditate engage in some form of exercise.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Exercising in the morning is much better than exercising later in the day in terms of productivity because of the \u201ccognitive buzz\u201d exercise provides you that you\u2019ll be able to then use to tackle your most important projects for the day.<\/p>\n<p>This works beautifully because remember:\u00a0 \u201cobjects in motion tend to stay in motion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Do this for 30 days and your life will change.\u00a0 I guarantee it.<\/p>\n<p>And again, if you\u2019re just starting out, use a mini-habit strategy.\u00a0 Here\u2019s an example of what\u00a0 you\u00a0 might do:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wake up after getting a good night\u2019s sleep<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Meditate for 5 minutes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Do 1 push up (yes. Just one)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The routine above takes no more than 10-minutes and it\u2019s something you\u2019ll be able to easily build upon.<\/p>\n<p>Pretty soon you\u2019ll be unstoppable and
