{"id":36022,"date":"2015-10-08T21:02:57","date_gmt":"2015-10-09T05:02:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/?p=36022"},"modified":"2015-10-11T21:30:16","modified_gmt":"2015-10-12T05:30:16","slug":"12-mini-habits-insanely-successful-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/blog\/12-mini-habits-insanely-successful-people\/","title":{"rendered":"12 Mini Habits of Insanely Successful People"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>\u201cMini habits\u201d are daily routines that take just a few minutes to perform, but have huge returns in the overall quality of your life as a result of doing so.<\/p>\n<p>So, what are some good \u201cmini habits\u201d to practice each day?<\/p>\n<p>Glad you asked.<\/p>\n<p>Here are 12 incredibly simple&#8211;yet powerful&#8211;ones that you can start incorporating into your life immediately.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Prefer audio? <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/12-powerful-mini-habits-to\/id904829767?i=354156260&amp;mt=2\" target=\"_blank\">Listen to this on iTunes here<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Before you go to bed at night, tell your brain, \u201cwake me up at _ a.m.\u201d<\/strong> Unless you got drunk the night before, you\u2019ll likely start waking up right before the alarm clock startles you awake.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If the subconscious command doesn\u2019t work, set the alarm on your smartphone and put it far enough away<\/strong> from your bed so you have to physically get up to shut your alarm off in the morning when it goes off. You\u2019ll be less likely to hit snooze once you\u2019re already up.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drink a liter of water upon rising.<\/strong> Most people are under-energized because they\u2019re under-hydrated. Hydration is energy. Keep a liter of water at your bedside table before bed, and crush it immediately upon rising.<\/li>\n<li><strong>After you brush your teeth, pause for a moment and smile at yourself.<\/strong> Then say, \u201cI love you.\u201d Most people don\u2019t love themselves enough. As Aristotle said, \u201cWe are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meaningfulhq.com\/habit-ramps.html\" target=\"_blank\">but a habit.<\/a>\u201d If you are what you repeatedly do, then why not repeatedly affirm something positive to yourself?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Take walks.<\/strong> Walking has been known to help people solve problems, come up with new ideas, and have epiphanies that seem to have come out of nowhere. But they don\u2019t come out of nowhere. They were there all along. Taking a walk just changes the context from \u2018desk\u2019 to \u2018nature\u2019. And nature is going to win almost every time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get grateful.<\/strong> If you feel sad, if you feel like you don\u2019t have enough of something; STOP and think of three things you\u2019re grateful for. You\u2019ll immediately feel better, I promise.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Meditate for 10\u201320 minutes.<\/strong> If you don\u2019t know how, just sit down somewhere quiet and count to 4 while you inhale; then 4 more counts as you exhale. Just focus on your breath.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do your ONE most important thing first.<\/strong> Before beginning your work, review your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meaningfulhq.com\/the-one-thing.html\" target=\"_blank\">ONE most important thing<\/a> you need to do today. Then get started on it. Your focus and effectiveness will before far higher when you approach your day this way.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Compliment one person every day.<\/strong> I started doing this several years ago and it feels great to give someone something without expecting a damn thing in return. In fact, you get a biochemical reaction of \u201chappy chemicals\u201d like oxytocin and serotonin when you give genuine compliment to someone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sweat every day.<\/strong> Speaking of \u201chappy chemicals,\u201d exercising \u2014 or at least finding a way to sweat every day \u2014 is one of the highest leverage things you can do for your overall health and happiness. When you\u2019re physically healthier, you become professionally healthier as a bi-product.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Revisit your day and remember the good stuff.<\/strong> Write it down in your journal if you can. I like to end each day by asking myself, \u201cWhat\u2019s the best thing that happened today?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Read every day.<\/strong> The greatest way to get the greatest ideas is to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/25-books-that-will-teach-you-the-most-powerful-leadership-lessons-ever\/\">read, read, read<\/a>. There\u2019s this great quote that goes like this: \u201cbooks are the hardbound drug of my choice.\u201d I like that one a lot. Plus, the only side effect of reading is a positive one\u2014the more you read, the more ideas you get. Read something (or <a href=\"http:\/\/audibletrial.com\/dean\" target=\"_blank\">listen to an audiobook<\/a>) every day to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickthebrain.com\/10-mind-expanding-books-read-lifetime\/\">expand your mind<\/a>.
