William Domhoff<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We all know the feeling, we have too much to do and too little time, and soon we begin to feel like\u00a0a pi\u00f1ata at our six year olds birthday party, battered and flung in every direction.<\/p>\n<p><b>Ask yourself these questions:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Do you spend time worrying about time?<b>\u00a0 \u00a0<\/b><i>Uh huh, I knew it!<\/i><\/li>\n<li>Do you eat on the go?\u00a0 <i>Lunch on your lap in the car?\u00a0 C\u2019mon admit it.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>Do you get enough sleep? \u00a0\u00a0<i>Are you starting to resemble a zombie from the walking dead?<\/i><\/li>\n<li>Do you make time for your friends, family or hobbies?\u00a0 <i>The work pot luck doesn\u2019t count.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>Do you make time for your health, via exercise and healthy eating?\u00a0 <i>Eating apple pie doesn\u2019t count for your daily fruit intake.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>Can you handle change? \u00a0\u00a0<i>Does even a five minute change up in schedule freaks you out?<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The problem with overextending ourselves this way is that one little shift is like a jenga puzzle; it&#8217;s all going to come crashing down.<\/p>\n<p>You need to hear this &#8211;\u00a0if you&#8217;re being flung in every direction,\u00a0then you&#8217;re not really following through on anything or <i>doing<\/i> anything particularly great.<\/p>\n<p><b>Your internal foundation will be shaky:\u00a0 Health, money, relationships and work will eventually crack.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s even worse than that is the speed with which your life will fly by without enjoying all the simple\u00a0moments, these moments which <i>are<\/i> your life.<\/p>\n<p><b>If any of this sounds like you, then you need to make some changes.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>1. Start with outer changes<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Make a list\u00a0to assess what changes you can make.<\/p>\n<p>Consider hiring a housekeeper or babysitter if it\u2019s within your means.\u00a0 Set yourself a realistic schedule or maybe it means taking a break from your social agenda.<\/p>\n<p><b>2.\u00a0 Learn how to say No \u2013 be assertive<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We have a choice how to respond to others&#8217; demands, we are under no obligation.\u00a0 Our first priority must be our own needs.\u00a0 Helpful hints to saying No without causing a rift:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tell\u00a0 them maybe, and then take the proper time to think it over.<\/li>\n<li>Be\u00a0honest and explain that you can&#8217;t commit because you have previous\u00a0\u00a0priorities.<\/li>\n<li>Soften\u00a0the blow by saying, &#8220;I&#8217;d love to but&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Give\u00a0them a suggestion, &#8220;I&#8217;m not the best person to help you with that\u00a0\u00a0because&#8230;..&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>3.\u00a0 <\/b><b>Put you first<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Put your own needs first.\u00a0 Like on a plane, always put your mask on first, otherwise you are no good to anyone else.<\/p>\n<p>You may be a mother\/father, sister\/brother, boss\/employee but you are so much more than just these roles, don\u2019t be defined or ruled by\u00a0others expectations.\u00a0 Take some special you time.<\/p>\n<p><b>4.\u00a0 Meditate<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Meditation won\u2019t solve all your outer problems,<\/b>\u00a0and it won\u2019t prevent future problems but what is will do is give you the clarity and calmness to deal with whatever comes up.<\/p>\n<p>We lack control over external conditions and that leaves us feeling powerless. Through meditation we grow the wisdom to understand that we are not powerless to all the outer turmoil; we can allow stillness and peace into our lives, even if just temporarily.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong>\u00a0 <strong>Practice Mindfulness<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The sad reality is that our lives are passing by very quickly.\u00a0\u00a0In our state of constant outer\u00a0busyness, the mind is also in a state of inner busyness, it\u00a0bounces, prepares, chatters and fixates as we skip from thought to thought in a foggy haze.<\/p>\n<p>Mindfulness is about changing the way we pay attention; it will slow us down and connect us with a peaceful state of living.<\/p>\n<p><b>6.\u00a0 Laugh<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Stop taking life so seriously.\u00a0 No matter what&#8217;s going on, life will go on,\u00a0stop causing yourself unneeded stress.<\/p>\n<p><b>7.\u00a0 Write it out<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Journaling will allow you to clarify your thoughts and feelings, release powerful emotions, gain clarity and let go.
