It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness. – Charles Spurgeon
Notice how when you’re around kids everybody’s mood changes in the room? You can’t help but gravitate towards their positive energy, regardless of how you may be feeling.
Kids are the best examples of people who are clearly happy. And If anybody is to learn anything about happiness, the best place to learn from is kids themselves.
When was the last time you were around kids? Maybe it was your neice, nephew, son, daughter or kids passing you by in the street.
Either way, I can guarantee they were oozing positivity, happiness and not to mention an overwhelming amount of energy, in a good way. And It’s contagious.
I find it inspiring to see and experience, and also learn from. Here are 4 lessons you can learn from kids about happiness!
1. You’ve got to do what you enjoy.
If you do what you love, it is the best way to relax. – Christian Louboutin
When I see my niece and nephew they’re always full of so much energy. And a big part of that is because they don’t hesitate to do the things they enjoy.
My niece loves writing and drawing so she does a lot of that. My nephew loves acting so he does a lot of that too. And the same can be applied to you as well, if you’re not already doing what you enjoy.
Even If it’s just for an hour a day, or two hours a day, the amount of time isn’t that big of a deal. Because dedicating some time to doing what you enjoy is better than not doing what you enjoy.
It does make a huge difference and a big impact on your happiness. And it’s easier to stay positive through out the day. So If you feel you haven’t got time, then make time!
2. You’ve got to have some fun.
All kids are naturally inclined to do fun things, or at least what’s fun to them. Whether that’s playing hide and seek, racing with one another or doing something silly.
Kids don’t hesitate to do it. In fact, they make it a priority to have fun, day in, day out. And that’s what seems to drive most adults nuts because they can’t keep up. This is an important lesson for us young adults, adults, or however old you are.
Doesn’t matter If you’re a parent or not, there’s always something fun we can all do. And the more we make time to have fun, or put the “fun” into what we’re doing, the happier we’re going to be.
3. You’ve got to have confidence.
When you have confidence, you can have a lot of fun. And when you have fun, you can do amazing things. – Joe Namath
I remember when I was younger and lacking confidence, and I can tell you It was some of my unhappiest times. Not that I didn’t have happy times, but the truth is the more confidence you have, the happier you’ll become.
When kids listen to music, what do they do? They dance and sing along to it without fear or concern. They don’t care what you think of their performance, they’ll do it anyway.
Kids are jam packed with confidence and they’re not afraid to show it whether they’re in public or not. If they have something to say, they’ll say it.
If kids have something to show you they’ll show you. And If kids have something to brag about, they’ll brag about it without hesitation.
Because they’re confident, and as a result they’re happy. And happy people are confident people.
Whatever you’ve been holding back on, it’s time to get it done. If you fear it, it means you need to do it. And when you do it, you’ll be more confident and much happier in the process!
4. Never take life too seriously.
When was the last time you seen a kid taking life too seriously? It never happens. They’re full of way too much energy, excitement and passion. When I see my niece and nephew they’re exactly the same way.
And this is an important lesson for all of us. What good is it going through life taking things too seriously, only to feel frustrated with yourself?
Relax a little, and always put the fun into what you’re doing. Or at least look for the fun in what you’re doing!
Got something to say? Let me know in the comments. 🙂

Erin shows overscheduled, overwhelmed women how to do less so that they can achieve more. Traditional productivity books—written by men—barely touch the tangle of cultural pressures that women feel when facing down a to-do list. How to Get Sh*t Done will teach you how to zero in on the three areas of your life where you want to excel, and then it will show you how to off-load, outsource, or just stop giving a damn about the rest.
