I love this article in all. But time can't always count in money. I guess the word value means money here.

I think an hour of my time is very valuable. I am a firm believer in the Pareto Principle (80/20) rule. If 20% of my effort equates to 80% of my results then my time is precious, especially since I work an 8 hour day. This means I have approximately 4.8 hours per day of productive activity towards goal achievement. Since I must use after working hours one hour of maximum, efficient effort is darn important.

Thanks for the article. I love reminders such as this.

I have a teenage son that does our lawn care, walk the dogs, pick up dog feces in the yard, wash our vehicles, and sometime cook meals. He is 13 but this gives him opportunity to earn money and learn some valuable skills. He does not have to undertake these tasks, but it is as an opportunity to earn his own money to purchase desired items like bikes, camping equipment, etc. I have also created a timesheet similar to what an employer may have an employee fill out to track work hours and tasks performed. Instead of giving my son anything and everything I'm trying to prepare him for the working world as he gets older and teach him that material things are not an entitlement. So while I'm trying to help my son help himself it does free up time for me and my wife to pursue future planning, reading, and a little relaxation.

Glad the time invested in reading was worth it!

I agree about TV -- I hardly watch any (though I have plenty of other time-wasting vices ;-)), because the value received so often doesn't seem to be worth my time.

One hour is very important in terms of daily activity. It could be an hour spent polishing up my blog or reading an engaging book. Some people waste hours of their lives watching TV. I fell victim to this habit myself, but eventually I compared the value of my time to the value of television and acted accordingly. I'd rather invest my time into my own endeavors then watch it dwindle at the mercy of mindless reality TV.

I do watch television about a few hours a day, but that's only in my guilty pleasures (scripted comedy/sitcoms or cartoons).

Thanks for posting - I'm glad I invested time into reading this article.
