Buddhist monk, Matthieu Richard (the Dalai Lama’s righthand man), has a fascinating lecture on TED about the nature of happiness and how happiness can be found through mind training.

Some of the topics covered include:

  • The nature of happiness and why it is often ignored for the sake of other pursuits.
  • The distinct different between happiness and pleasure.
  • Training the mind to control emotions to find happiness in any situation.
  • Scientifically measuring happiness and our ability to train the mind through neuro-plasticity.

This man, engineer at first and then monk, has written some impressive books on mind, perception and philosophy. I think he’s one of the firsts masters coming from occident. Nice share.

Thanks for the pointer to the video. I’m almost done reading his book “Happiness” and I enjoy hearing an author speak after having read what they’ve written. I highly recommend the book.
