    I tend to wake up early anyway, usually between 4-5 am, getting only around 6 hours of sleep when I do sleep.  One of the things that helped me get up early in the morning is mentally setting an alarm clock and telling myself that I’m going to be awake and happy when I wake up — using that as a sort of ‘hypnotic suggestion’ for the snooze.  The body and brain remember. :)

      My problem is because the thing I enjoy the most is to watch a movie at night that will definitely get me late to bed. I do that to feel I did something for my self but that makes my day gloomy and always want to go back to my cozy bed .
      I cannt find something enjoyable to do in the early morning !!!

    The winter ski season has turned me into an early riser at least on a seasonal basis.  As an avid skier and instructor, I like to be on the ski slopes first thing in the morning on the fresh snow before the crowds come in.  Since my favourite ski area is a two hour drive, this means a very early morning departure for me.  

    I still don’t particularly like getting up so early at 6 am since it means early to bed at 10 pm the night before and leaving the door by 6:45 am but once I’m on my first run of the day on the snow, I’m always glad I got up.  I use the first 1.5 hours to enjoy the slopes,especially working on my own technique on the steep ones, before I start teaching students by mid-morning.

    One of my dogs is also use to this routine as he checks me out by the side of my bed around the time I wake up.  So he is certainly expecting me to get up early, even on non-ski days now.  Although I haven’t extended this early schedule into other seasons in the past, I think that I may make this an all year round thing from now on as long as I don’t have too many late night activities.

    Hi Amber,
    I used to be the worst at getting up early but now I haven’t used an alarm clock in over 5 years. For me it was 2 parts. One going to bed early and two a change in my mindset about getting up early.

    I tried many tips and tricks and none worked for me. It turned out I had low iron, really low. Now that I supplement with black strap molasses, I can wake up after 7 hours of sleep and I have more energy and mental alertness.
    Now I can stick to one set bedtime and one set time to get up. Thank you

    When I have to wake up early to do something that I don’t really want to do, I just make sure I get enough sleep the night before. That way I’m well rested and awake naturally.

    Wake up early is not a big deal, bacause i’am a moslem. because we have to pray at 4 am for start a new day.  :)

    I’ve NEVER been a morning person.  HATE getting up, always grumpy, but the one thing I have found that when I do get up early, is that I have a more productive day and accomplish tons.  I also feel more alert when I get to work and don’t find myself using that first hour to drink coffee and wake up.

    I know so many people that get up, get in the shower, and rush right out the door and head to work.   Coffee time isn’t until work and most skip breakfast entirely or eat it at work. 

    I really believe that getting up early, having my coffe, eating a healthy breakfast, and having the ability to be able to do some things around the house if I choose to gives me that little bit of edge over many of my co-workers who are still wiping the sleep out of their eyes when they get to work.

    I get up between 5:00 and 5:15, and actually want to push it earlier as the weather warms up.  I started by setting my alarm clock just 15 minutes earlier for a week, then 15 more minutes, until I found my desired time.

    That old saying “early to bed, early to rise…” definitely has some meaning.

    I guess my question is, do you really gain anything if you give up your hours of night-owl productivity in order to go  to bed early and thus get up early? A natural night owl who is productive between 10pm – 12am going to bed at 10 and trying to be productive from 5am – 7am seems like a lot of work for no benefit… ?

    Had a method taught to me several years ago that works, though I can’t claim any scientific truth to this.
    After I climb into bed, I decide what time I want to wake up. I then try to tighten every muscle in my body and think about waking up at that time. Then I relax. I repeat this seven times. Takes less than a minute.
    I know, sounds like hocus pocus, but it works for me.

    My written goals are the one who motivates me to wake up early in the morning and to live life to the fullest.. A person without something to aim for tends to be very complacent in life..
