Interesting. I find it is hard to identify the good advice. I dont give the advice the weight it deserves. Most of my life it seems people have been giving me gold. I just rediscover what they said for myself and then stare back at it and wonder why i didnt listen. It wasnt that i did not listen, i just did not fully understand it. I didnt follow it. It is just difficult to put that advice immediately into action. I do now or at least i try to. If there is an action i follow through on it. However a lot of advice is specific to a situation and is not applicable unless you are in a similar position to the advisor. I try to take all advice now. Some of it is bad. Some is good. I realize now that i will not be able to tell which until i actually take the advice. My advice to you.... write to yourself about any problem you are trying to solve. It is a great way to organize your thoughts. That is about the only advice i might give you which i can be confident you may take.

I’m impressed, I must say. Really not often do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me inform you, you may have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the problem is something that not enough persons are talking intelligently about. I am very comfortable that I stumbled across this in my seek for something relating to this.

Advice does not exist. There are only Opinions.

When an individual comes out of the woods all battered and torn best to listen to their opinions for they know where the wild animals, landslides or quicksand is. Either listen and consider or take the first aid kit into the woods with you.

And you know whats weird, is that people believe so much that the confident person is right that it actually comes true because of the persons faith.

"Another big mistake that many people make when asking for advice is selecting the most confident–not the most qualified–person to help them out"

Definitely agree with this one, it's much more important to find someone who understands the situation, perhaps has been there before and learned from their mistakes - rather than just the person who appears the most sure of their opinion.

I fact, sometimes the reason one person is so confident while another hedges their bets, is because the seemingly confident person is somewhat ignorant of the subject and only looking at it through a very limited perspective - whereas the person who has a lot of experience, and understands the specification situation is weighing a variety of factors against each other.

I think we go through stages of needing advice in different areas of our lives. Sometimes we need it, sometimes not.

Once we've learnt a certain amount of knowledge about something, we can put this into practice. It is useless to be constantly taking advice if we're not going to spend some time using it.

Like you said though, sometimes you don't need advice. Your gut feeling will tell you when a certain moment is or isn't one where you require advice.

Cheers
