It’s not only Jean-Dominique who must be appreciated but the person who actually physically ‘typed’ the book understanding his signals.Adversity certainly becomes less burdensome when you have people who can understand and share the load.
I have seen one of Randy’s lecture,and he is really funny.
Will get this book and read it.

I used to work for a bookseller when the book was published and had the opportunity to read it then. It is well worth reading if you have not yet done so.

As for reading the article with just my left eye, I managed to do it, but man was it trying and tiring. The man not only had to overcome the lack of any other functionality (which could drive a person insane), but also had to be tenacious.

I did catch a little bit of the movie as well, and saw the portions when he was first starting to “write”. They captured the difficulties and frustrations quite well and the camera angles really put the viewer in the experience.

I hope I can make my mark on the world with my entire body intact and functioning. Good post.

Thank you for the reminder Victor. I’ve read the book several years ago. It is truly a testament to the human spirit, and the healing powers of the mind. Far from being a “woe-is-me” feel sorry for myself biography, Bauby rises above that to embrace the life he remembers. A life that sometimes took for granted the simplicity of tasks such as shaving, eating, or merely forming a word.

Obviously no one lives their life aware of every minute detail as it passes by, and in fact it’s not until something’s taken away that we really appreciate it. However, Bauby’s book made me grateful and appreciate what I have, and even if just for a little while forget about what I don’t.
