    Well said,
De-stressing ourselves in this modern is very important and the tips you mentioned are really useful.

I liked the point which says “make yourself a priority”. Very well said.

    Very well said.
De-stressing ourselves is very important in the modern age and the points you mentioned are really useful.

Especially the point which says “make yourself a priority” is very much needed to achieve the de-stressing goal.

    Thanks for this post

Good reminder Wilma. Sometimes I get so caught up in achieving, I forget that stopping and disengaging for a while, will aid me in those achievements long term.

Good post Wilma ! I try to de-stress myself by going for trekking on weekend or doing long run. It gives me power to work again for next week :)

It’s important to take care of yourself and let yourself relax and enjoy life. It’s not selfish, although I think some see it that way. The way I see it: if you can’t enjoy life and take care of yourself, you can expect to be able to help others enjoy life.

I think it’s selfish to put yourself first, if you are doing things that aren’t focused on replenishing and re-energizing yourself so that you can be a better person within your community. Forking out money and time for a weekly pedicure so you can feel good about yourself when you could paint your own toe-nails and give that money to World Vision or Joplin relief efforts … well, I take time to workout so I can be stronger to carry my kids and live long enough to hold my great-grandbabies. I take time to unwind and relax during naptime so I can be a more patient mother when my kids wake up. It’s all about the focus :)

    Chetan,
Thanks for your comment. I did not even address physical exercise but it is another great way to de-stress.

    Hi Wilma,
If I have to wear one more hat without removing a few my neck is gonna snap.

Seriously though, we need to get back to basics in life. There are way more options available for us in our modern world. This has taken away the simplicity that many of us desire.

I really LOVED reading this post. :) The line I loved most was “Make yourself a priority”. Many times we get so involved in doing this, that, that for others that we just forget about being with “ourselves” relaxing, and smiling. :) I liked that daydreaming example very much.

    Thank you for inspiring.

I agree we all need to take a break. My breaks are a bit more extended and isolated but however it happens, it definitely needs to happen!

I liked the point about dressing down (second point). I have always done this and feel relaxed. When I wear a suit at work – I feel pretty uptight, even though I really don’t notice it. Looking back, it would feel a lot better wearing jeans, tshirt and flip-flops into the office. However, I still would be a little tense since I would be the only one going it. :)

Getting rid of the cellphones idea reminds me of an incident up at the ski slopes this past winter. I teach skiing as a social activity during the winter and one of my ski students was this young guy who just had to take out his cellphone on the slope to check messages. Sure enough, he thought that he put his phone back into his pocket when in reality, he missed and lost his new iPhone somewhere on the slopes. That taught him something. I told him that I don’t carry a cellphone when I’m skiing because I don’t want to be bothered. If somebody has a message that is important, they will leave a voicemail which I can get to later.
