Rick, I agree and I'm actually writing an article on the subject of accepting your limitations so you can transcend them.

Self-knowledge is a starting point for growth, and an essential one, although I don't believe its the only ingredient. Thinking styles (optimism for one) is also a very useful trait.

Thanks for your contribution. Where can I get a copy of your book?

Self-knowledge is the key towards opening the door to personal development, and anything you wish to improve in life.

If you don't know yourself, how are you to know what to develop?

Personal development is the key. The quickest and easiest thing you can change is yourself and flexibility is the key to success in any situation ... it's the Darwin way.

Yes, BUT. There are millions of people who are self aware AND stuck in a complete rut in their lives. The one trait among the dozens of amazing people i researched for my new book, The Leap, was that they believed that a brighter future was possible. Sure, they were self aware, but many people are too aware, buying into all their faults, limiting their potential in their heads.

No matter how aware you are, you have to give yourself a chance.

To the editor:

You may have noticed this but the ad with the image of a scantily dressed woman displaying at top right of the blog page, in my humble opinion, contradicts (and subtracts from) the theme of the blog.

Your content is strong but beware of cheapening your image.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks...

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the correction. I knew the quote, but I guess the site where I found the information about where it came from was wrong!

To your highest

Good post, although...

"Well, if you like ancient advice the school of Socrates had ‘know thyself’ over the door"

Socrates didn't have a school nor did he ever teach. Those resounding words, "Know Thyself" was a written inscription at the temple of Apollo at Delphi - this was a Oracle which Socrates use to visit from time to time.

You are quite right in saying self observation or better still self-knowledge is the key to personal growth and life in general. Once you know yourself you will know the world, and should be able to conquer any obstacle towards achievement.

I have written a post detailing just that:
