There are definitely a lot of benefits to being able to make people laugh. And I believe this is a learnable skill – the key, in my view, is to focus on amusing yourself. Then you’ll amuse the other person as well.

Trouble with making people laugh is often that we try our best to me funny, and that’s a recipe for disaster. Some confidence is needed of course, but letting oneself to be seen as a fool if won’t make it is often required to loosen up and have fun.
It’s good to get prepared in advance, seek for some new jokes, interesting stories and situations and to just go with the flow without trying. Simply having fun ;)

Sometimes just laughing at yourself can transform the relationship. Realizing that we are all actors intersecting in each other’s plays as we stumble or run through life means that we should take the time to see the humor in ANY situation. Ever watch a movie and the more frustrated the character gets the harder your life. Imagine if you could find a way to laugh at your crazy as it spills out of you; even if not IN the moment, you can change your relationships when you are able to lose your defensive position by finding the common ground of crazy. Saying “yeah–I went insane for a couple of seconds–my bad–wow where did that come from?” My family refers to it as “crazy town”. You can laugh or cry, but sitting in a pool of anger and blame serves no one. Excellent post!
