It was challenging at times especially once we had kids. Fortunately, my wife was very understanding and gave me the privacy I needed to do my work. In addition, the flexibility it provided was great. I can definitely see where problems would arise if others in the home did not respect work hours. I worked from home for about 8 years. I blog mainly because I enjoy it, but I also consider it to be a "second job" that I do from home. My family is my number 1 priority (I have a wife and a 1 year old baby), but my blogging is also important to me and it can sometimes be hard to balance the two. If I'm not careful, my wife will plan a whole weekend of activities for us without taking into consideration that I need about half a day each weekend to prepare for the upcoming week.
