David!

Nice post. I really value respect in communications with others. Passing judgments and putting others down is low.

Listing is another beauty...

When I was at university I studied a subject called Communication and Negotiation. Aside from the Buddhism, philosophy and drawing I studied at university it was one of the most worthwhile subjects I have ever taken.

We are never not communicating. Even if we say nothing we are communicating something by saying nothing.

Communication involves so much more than words. The words we speak are chosen to articulate our thoughts, and yet so much more is involved. Facial expressions, body language, eye contact, posture and intensity level will either reinforce the spoken word or render it null and void. The nonverbal message we send will come through loud and clear every time. Every point in your article is well-made and 100% valid. But we should never underestimate the power of the nonverbal.

Some really great points. Communication skills matter all the more when you work on your own and you have to constantly promote your services to new and existing clients. I would like to add another factor that can significantly improve the way you communicate your message: learn as much as you can. If you are comfortable about the topic you are more relaxed and confident when you are articulating your thoughts. Knowledge of the subject puts you at an advantageous position.

Do not forget about the importance of listening.
You can be so popular in a group or among your friends only by listening to them. In our society everybody tend to talk way more than they supposed to. Listen and encourage them to talk with you. Be a supportive friend who is there for them. They will love you and help you anytime you need, because they know that they can trust you.
