This reminds me of Foucault's quote, which goes something like;

'It is that which opposes the system that strengthens it'

In the same way we only grow to the extent of the obstacles we face.

As long as we understand that obstacles are not problems, just indicators that our plan, or actions, or energy, etc., is not perfect yet. Just keep going. Go around, over, through that obstacle. Accept it as a challenge and conquer it. That's all. Visit http://www.LikeSoup.com if your obstacles are about what to do about finances. I'll show you how to laugh at obstacles in your rear view mirror..

There is nothing wrong with obstacles. Obstacles means your getting somewhere and this resistance is good.

A lot of life's goals are like the ocean. When you start from shore and you're trying to get to the calm sea, you're going to meet tons of resistance with the waves and undertow trying to pull you back into shore.

However, when you break free of that last wave, you're home free, in the calm of the ocean.

I welcome obstacles because I know my goals are coming. They're just manifested in its polarity form. If I had a goal and nothing was happening, then that would make me a little nervous because I'm already in the calm of the sea.

Great article!

Peace and Love,
Nick

Good post. I think another important point is understanding that obstacles are always a part of the process towards success. I think we need to gain resolve to stick with our goals - no matter what. We also must be willing to be flexible and make adjustments as needed.

Thanks all! Like Steven, I agree with Jason ... we often throw obstacles in our own path. It can be darn hard to realise and accept this (the first step to getting round 'em), though!

Good post, Ali!

Might I add, that our biggest obstacle in life is ourselves. We are mostly debilitated because of affliction of minds by fear, apathy and procrastination, of which I talk about here:

http://www.knowledgereform.com/2009/10/08/stop-procrastinating-now-invoke-action-to-make-a-creative-life/

Maybe the first thing we need to do is to attain self-knowledge to overcome the inner obstacles, which will in turn emancipate our minds and spirits to overcome external obstacles and achieve our goals.

I like comparison between driving and keeping up motivation. Continuing the analogy, I would add that routine maintenance is essential to keeping both going. There are routine activities like diet, exercise,etc that if neglected for too long can impede your ability to keep going. Anyway, great post, thanks.
