7 Ultimate Ways to Build Self-Confidence

Self-confidence is the strand of confidence which exclusively deals with the self-assuredness in one’s personal judgment, ability, and power. It therefore is the most important sort of confidence because deprived of it we are simply left without a backbone.

That’s why whenever I write articles I always emphasize self-confidence because everything you ever do is built on this foundation.

These 7 strategies which will help you not just build, but radiate self-confidence.

1. Start Positive

A huge part of self-confidence simply comes from perspective. It comes from your outlook towards the world. So if at this moment you have any negative thoughts, begin replacing them with positive ones.

Redirect your substantial energy of frustration and negativity, and convert it into positive, determination.

2. Understand Yourself

Self-confidence starts with you. So if you don’t understand yourself properly how you can you even imagine building self-confidence.

Get to know who you are as person. Realize your strengths and weaknesses, and reflect on yourself with an unbiased lens. This will allow you to see yourself for who you really are and give yourself a solid foundation to build on.

3. Face Your Fear

A lack of self-confidence is simply a surplus of fear. You don’t feel confident in your abilities because you fear the outcome.

To build self-confidence you need to pinpoint exactly what you fear. This way when you realize what it is, you can begin the process of overcoming it.

4. Prepare and Reflect

Insecurity arises from being unprepared. So to overcome this insecurity you must prepare yourself to a point where you feel you are ready.

Once you reach this platform, it’s all about getting into that right mindset and reflecting on all that you have achieved.

One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation.

-          Arthur Ashe

Take Action

Self-confidence is built through practical forms. So by doing nothing and just thinking about it, you will only make things worse.  You have to actually go out there and do something.

Expand your comfort zone and try to take things one step at a time.

6. Gratitude

Don’t beat yourself up.

Many unconfident people become even more unconfident because they always pick out their flaws. This negativity just makes them feel worse and they get lost in this positive feedback loop.

You need to understand that you are only human. You will always be bad at things, but then you will always be good at things too. Focus on the good things and give yourself gratitude where it is deserved.

7. Don’t fear Failure

Failure is a natural part of life.

Not one man or woman ever set foot on this earth and left it without facing failure. So give yourself a break and embrace failure, because only through failures will you find true success and true self-confidence.

Hi…this a well thought out list especially number 2.  Knowing yourself is a big one in terms of understanding ahead of time how me might react or have reacted in the past.  Realizing this can really help shape a course of action like you mention in number 4.  Thanks

These are great points on building self confidence.  As far as specific venues to help building that self confidence, I’ve come across two really good ones.  First is through martial arts, especially for children who need a confidence booster.  I’ve seen many, many success stories with kids who took martial arts and become great student role models.

For adults, I also advocate martial arts training.  I would also add that participation in Toastmasters also builds confidence as well.  Again, I’ve seen many success stories with adults through Toastmasters clubs who became confident, assertive individuals after a couple of months participation.

Clint, interesting recommendations there. Hearing a lot of great things about Toastmasters, think I might look into joining a club!

I think that a good strategy is to learn all of this step by step. Sometimes it’s hard to change the whole perception you have about yourself, so doing it one step at a time may do wonders. Understanding success in a different way is maybe a crucial thing.
