Some very good points. Sometimes we get so stressed that we forget that we can have fun. Also, during times of stress is when most people do the opposite of your healthy eating suggestion. That just exacerbates the problem. (Look at my vocabulary growing through blog comments!)

Also, I’d add get a regular night’s sleep to the list. Poor sleep patters also lead to physical stress by throwing off the body’s natural clock. Very difficult but very important. It’s one of those things we all know we should do but don’t do it.

Great tips! You should included get enough sleep. I like the entertain yourself tip. Coz most of the time, stress is like lava flowing in you and you’re the volcano…you need to find a place to vent out your energy or you will explode! And we don’t want that.
For me, a simple relaxing day without thinking would do the trick and this http://budurl.com/kkx4

I heard a great tip recently which was to jog barefooted on grass for 20 minutes a day. It has an amazing effect on curing stress and depression apparently.

    Hi Jyoti.

I sure agree about eating a balanced diet. Diet is a category that is much easier to handle than some other regions of our living, so it is worth getting it right by doing the simple things like drinking enough water and eating fruits and vegetables and rice and so on. It provides a good foundation. A lot of folks have no real chance to do well because of a poor nutritional foundation. “It is out of my hands” is generally not the way to treat any problems, such as nutrition.

The basics are huge. Water and healthy foods has to be step 1. Other steps only come after step 1 is handled.

I think good nutrition is far and away one of the most effective stress-busters out there. I’m sure there were other factors, but when I switched a few years back from a typical ‘healthy’ low-protein diet to a way of eating rich in natural proteins and fats as well as plenty of veg, I noticed my overall energy, mindset and therefore ability to deal with stress slowly but surely went through the roof.

Now, even though with a new baby I am very sleep deprived (sleep has to be the missing 6th point I think!) I notice a huge difference in my mood depending on how I’ve eaten.

Joyti – enjoyed the post. Just wrote one myself on the four rooms of wellness. I love your statement – Life acts – we react – I believe that is a huge piece of this thing we call stress. I think a major trigger for our stress is our thoughts. Often we re-trigger stressors through our thought process.
You are so right that the mind cannot distinguish the difference between what is real and what is not. That is why when we worry today about 5 hours from now – the brain is already reacting to the experience as if it were now.

Nice post. Short and simple. Letting go of the past is a powerful one in my opinion – it’s gone, so why bother worrying. :)

  • Jyoti Singal

Hi Matt, You are actually right. Sleep patterns are very imp.

  • Jyoti Singal

Hello Megan, You know entertaining yourself is very important. If you feel light and relaxed, the stress factor does not affect you at all

  • Jyoti Singal

Hi Richard, i’m sure that would be helpful.

  • Jyoti Singal

Hello Lousie, Its true that the brain does not whether the stress is real or just made up. Yet our brain reacts to the stress.

  • Jyoti Singal

Hi Louise, sorry, i meant to say the brain does not know

  • Jyoti Singal

Hi Craig, Thanks for liking the post. Well, its actually true, our past disturbs us more than our present. So we need to forget what has happened and move ahead!

The article suggests actions to take to treat the symptoms of stress but not the cause. Stress (and the physical symptoms it creates) is the result of negative EMOTIONS and beliefs that occur when people are unable to cope with the demands of their environment.

Following is a scientifically proven technique that anyone can use to transform negative emotions into positive productive emotions and behavior. It is based on about 20 years of physiological research about how emotions effect the brain and cognition. With practice you can learn to do it in just a few seconds – thus eliminating the cause of the symptoms described in the article.

    1. Recognize the disturbing emotions and take a TIME-OUT.

    2. SHIFT your focus away from your racing mind and disturbed emotions to the area around
your heart. Keep your attention there for about 10 seconds.

    3. Recall some positive fun times in your life and re-experience the emotions you had then.
ACTIVATE positive emotions. Do this for about 30 seconds.

    4. Using your intuition, ASK yourself “What would be a more effective response to this situation for me… one that would minimize stress?”

    5. LISTEN to what your intuition says in answer to your question.

Initially begin by practicing this BEFORE… meetings, phone calls, difficult discussions, driving in traffic, walking in the door at home, picking up the kids, etc.

You can also use it AFTER… meetings, phone calls, difficult discussions, etc.

With PRACTICE you will be able to do it in shorter and shorter amounts of time.

This is a really good post that will remind us that life is not all about working too much. Sometimes, you need to look around you and try to relax despite all the hard work you’ve done. I totally agree that being organized is one way to beat stress. In that way, we would be able to know when and how to start doing things accordingly.

I found this article about BALANCING HOME AND WORK which I believe is also helpful in beating stress. Click on http://sn.im/wyezt to see what i mean.
