Note: There are sources listed in this article, such as the American Cancer Society recommending that 2/3 of your meals come in the form of fruits and vegetables....additionally, I didn't say "never" go in the sun unprotected...

I also said that screening was only good in some cases....etc.

Also note your comment will be seen by thousands of people (without sources).

The "heart" of what I'm saying is supported by the vast majority of medical science...

This article, while good intentioned, is mostly incorrect. Whole grains are one of the primary causes of the plight of our health today. Science has actually proven that cancer cells rely on glucose for energy, which the body produces from whole grains. Also, moderate exposure to sunlight without sun screen helps protect against skin cancer.

Additionally, screening does little good overall. Most cancers, if screened early, cannot be treated succesffully. Some screens, such as breast cancer screens, provide flase positives that are used as a pretext to amputate a part of the human body.

Fruits are also not great for cancer prevention. Many fruits are high in fructose which has been causally linked to heart disease and cancer growth. Some fruits are pretty decent though, such as berries.

Could not agree more with alcohol though. Leave that beverage to the baboons.

In the future, please back up your guidelines with scientific evidence. I realize I did not provide links in my comment, but I am not the one broadcasting "guidance" to thousands of people. Be more responsible when producing health articles.

I would also say - slow down and relax. Many conditions are made worse by stress, and some people even o so far as to say that one's mental state is a major cause of illness. So RLAX!

This is such good advice! Just by making some dedicated changes to our diet we can accomplish so much, not even with just preventing cancer, but so many other health benefits (for both body and mind).

Just a word of caution about the sunshine thing - I have suffered the lethargy and feeling run-down having taken so much care to use sunscreen that I got low on vitamin D which then caused my calcium level to start to drop too, but generally you seem to have offered good advice. I supose moderation has to be the watch word.

Hey Dave....thanks for commenting...

I'm not saying, "don't eat white rice"...I was just offering an additional option for those who are looking to increase the amount of "whole grains" they consume...brown rice is a whole grain...white rice is not...brown rice also has more fiber than white rice..., but if you think brown rice is "gross" :) ...you can get those whole grains from somewhere else...

The article is a great summary of cancer prevention. But I object to the brown rice thing :)

Why shouldn't we eat white rice? It has a glycemic index almost identical to white rice, and in the US, white rice is legally required to be enriched with the same vitamins and minerals you find in brown rice.

Additionally, white rice is served internationally at much higher frequencies than the US, and cancer rates in the east are far lower. That's not proof it doesn't cause cancer, but of all the things on the list, I don't think it will help one way or the other, and brown rice is pretty gross :)
